New video: Vocations and parent conversations

Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration knows that considering life as a Catholic sister today can be met with lots of questions, both for the woman contemplating vows and for her family. And that’s why FSPA has added a second video to its Show me a sign guide for discerners.

In the series premiere, “What if my family doesn’t agree with my choice?”, Sister Lucy Slinger sat down with her sibling and spoke candidly about the family reaction.

In the newest video, launched Feb. 1, 2019, Sister Sarah Hennessey and her parents, Mary Kay and Thomas, discuss the common discerner question, “What if my family isn’t Catholic?” Sister Sarah introduces viewers to her eclectic family — from Methodist to Quaker and Catholic to Hindu (mix in a little Buddhism, too).

Sister Sarah didn’t start out Catholic, but her mom explains how it became the right choice. Mary Kay shares this story: “I will tell you that when she became a Catholic, I talked to my pastor at the time — a woman — and said, ‘I don’t understand why they’re the same. How can she go from being a Quaker with no ritual, no liturgy, to being Catholic which is all liturgy?’ And my pastor said, ‘she didn’t change, she found what fit.’ And the light came on; it fits.”
