Sister Juanita (Verona) Hytry, 91 years old and in the seventieth year of religious profession, died Dec. 17, 2025, at St. Rose Convent in La Crosse, Wisconsin. She grew up on a farm along with 11 sisters and three brothers in Green Valley, Wisconsin, and felt a deep call to religious life in her senior year of high school (influenced, perhaps, by her two older sisters already at St. Rose). Education was her ministry for 40 years throughout Wisconsin, and Sister Jaunita was named “Teacher of the Year” by Today’s Catholic Teacher in 1975. She then entered into the ministry of pastoral care, serving in Iowa and Wisconsin where, in La Crosse, she was a volunteer chaplain at Mayo Clinic Health System until 2014. Sister Juanita is remembered by many as a quiet, gentle soul with words of encouragement for everyone she met. She loved teaching and sharing stories about her first and second-grade students, and her dedication will live on in the hundreds of student teachers she inspired and guided. In loving memory: Sister Juanita Hytry
