In an article published by Global Sisters Report, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration Eileen McKenzie, a mobilization specialist with the Kino Border Initiative, shares how she finds and witnesses hope while ministering at KBI.
As Sister Eileen reflects on a conversation she had with a single mother from Ecuador, similar to other families in migration, she shares, “I am surprised by what I feel: hope. It doesn't make sense to me, but it's real.”
Sister Eileen recalls the families she comes across at KBI. She says, “They are discouraged, yes, but hopeless, no.” At KBI, Sister Eileen witnesses women supporting one another in their Proyecto de Vida workshop, sharing news about loved ones with each other, including their worries for the following days.
