Sister Julia Walsh

In her latest Messy Jesus Business blog, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration Julia Walsh is poised to join Franciscans around the world in celebration of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi on Oct. 4.

She has taken to the Messy Jesus Business blog to write a reflection of service on the margins, titled "Courageous countercultural choices inspired by St. Francis," in which she shares some of her archival writings regarding St. Francis and Franciscan values, rememberings of her pilgrimage to Assisi, Italy, and wonderings about "how he has impacted me recently, how he is impacting all of us."

"Seven hundred and ninety-nine years since the death of St. Francis, in the wealthy and complicated United States of America, it is easy to distance oneself from the poor. It is easy to avoid discomfort as a coping method. Yet "... now is the time for a revival of courageous and countercultural choices."
