Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration Julia Walsh shares a sense of gratitude and amazement following the election of Pope Leo XIV.
Sister Julia was surprised, amazed and not something she expected upon receiving the news. Adding to the significance of this moment, both she and Pope Leo XIV are graduates from the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, a shared connection she describes as “something I never could have imagined.”
As the Church enters a new chapter, Sister Julia says she is praying “prayers of gratitude and awe” for the new pontiff.
Sister Julia shares more of her reflection in Wisconsin Public Radio’s feature, “Vatican elects a new, American pope.” Her segment begins at 5:50.
