Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration Laverne Wilichowski died Aug. 6, 2025, at the age of 92 and in her seventy-second year of religious profession, at St. Rose Convent in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Sister Laverne, one of 13 siblings, grew up enjoying the opportunities and challenges of life on her family's farm near Marathon, Wisconsin. She entered St. Rose High School after eighth grade and was received into the FSPA novitiate in 1951. Education, as a teacher of primary, middle and upper grades and also principal throughout Wisconsin and Washington, was her lifelong ministry. She also volunteered as a librarian and in scripture ministry in Prescott, Wisconsin, and served in prayer and hospitality at St. Rose. Sister Laverne, quiet, gentle and caring, made everyone she encountered feel special. She loved sharing Dairy Queen Dilly Bars with the sisters at St. Rose, and could cite statistics from every Brewers, Bucks and Packers game to anyone who asked.
