Changing the narrative with Sister Eileen Mckenzie at the Coulee Region Immigration Summit

On Wednesday, Sept. 17, the third Coulee Region Immigration Summit – organized by the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, FSPA’s affiliation program, the Franciscan Spirituality Center, the Kino Border Initiative and the Coulee Region Immigration Task Force – brought together over 200 community members.​

At the immigration summit, Sister Eileen McKenzie, mobilization specialist with the KBI, shared the importance of changing the narrative around families in migration. In a La Crosse Tribune publication, Sister Eileen shared, “We need to disrupt the dehumanizing narrative. There’s a lot of destruction going on right now.”

Christine Neumann-Ortiz, executive director of Voces de la Frontera, shared policy updates. In a La Crosse Tribune publication, Christine shared, “I think it’s very important for me to really think about immigration as a class issue, and it’s part of a global movement for the rights of working people.”
