Sister Donna Weber's Story & Gallery
Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration Donna Weber was born in 1930 and grew up on a small farm five miles west of Eau Galle, Wisconsin. She was the ninth of ten children. Having a sister (Sister Mildred Weber) and several other relatives in the FSPA community helped inspire her to join the community. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Viterbo College, La Crosse, Wisconsin; a Master of Arts from George Peabody College for Teachers, Nashville, Tennessee; and a Master of Arts in Culture and Creation Spirituality from Holy Names College in Oakland, California.
Sister Donna served as an elementary teacher for 14 years in Spokane, Washington, and Ashland and La Crosse, Wisconsin. She ministered as an art teacher for 20 years in high schools across Wisconsin and at Viterbo College. Sister Donna served on the retreat staff at Holy Cross Center in Merrill, Wisconsin. She spent 18 years in parish ministry, and from 1990 until 2008, she served as pastoral associate at Sacred Heart Parish in Wauzeka, Wisconsin. Sister Donna retired to St. Rose Convent in 2008 and continued her pursuit of the fine arts.
Sister Donna is remembered warmly as a caring and creative person who loved visiting with others. She spoke openly about the beauty found in creation and in people, which she expressed in her art. While at Viterbo, she was asked to create furnishings for the St. Francis Chapel and designed the altar, chalice, tabernacle and credence table using the theme “You fill us with the best of wheat.” She worked in a range of artistic disciplines including oil and watercolor painting, wood and metal sculpture, design and calligraphy. Sister Donna passed away at St. Rose Convent in 2021 at the age of 91.
