Cameroon Common Venture

Sisters in the Common Venture groupThe year 1998 welcomed the initiation of a Common Venture among four Franciscan congregations: Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, La Crosse, Wis.; Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, Milwaukee, Wis.; Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist, Meriden, Conn.; and the Tertiary Sisters of St. Francis, Cameroon, West Africa.

The U.S. congregations assist the Tertiary Sisters in becoming African Franciscan women in the 21st century. The partnership has resulted in varied sharing and growth opportunities for all of the congregations.

  • The Tertiary Sisters have experienced community life with the U.S. congregations as they engage in professional study in the U.S.
  • U.S. sisters have helped the Tertiary Sisters develop processes for continuing their spiritual, communal, and professional development.
  • Short-term cross-cultural mission experiences have opened the opportunity for members of the U.S. communities to personally discover the challenges of life in another culture.

As we allow the spirit to lead this process, additional networking opportunities continue to emerge.
