With LCWR, we #StandAgainstRacism
Leadership Conference of Women Religious, of which FSPA belongs, approved a resolution recommitting to the important work of addressing racism as a systemic, structural cause underlying and contributing to multiple injustices. Together, sisters declared:
In the presence of constant and painful reminders of the deep roots of racism in our country, we the Leadership Conference of Women Religious reaffirm the Assembly Resolution and pledge to go deeper into the critical work of creating communion, examining the root causes of injustice and our own complicity, and purging ourselves, our communities, and our country of the sin of racism and its destructive effects.
This came just two months after FSPA declared this provocative movement:
We celebrate authentically unity in diversity by challenging ourselves to unveil our white privilege.
And now, everyone is invited to join our Stand Against Racism social media campaign. Our hope is that thousands of sisters and friends across the country will spread our posts using #StandAgainstRacism.
“They and the women of color who followed them bore the heat of the day, the pain of racism, segregation and rejection. But they never despaired.” -Sister Anita Baird, IHM.
