"He showed a pencil -- just a little pencil, he'd been using it so much -- and he said, 'I'm a real American student,'" shares Sister Laura Nettles in a news800 story about a school supplies drive for "the nearly 2,000 Afghan children and youths at Fort McCoy." Sister Laura, executive director of Viterbo University Mission and Social Justice, was on hand to help announce the drive launched by Great Rivers United Way in partnership with Viterbo, La Crosse School District, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Western Technical College. "The supplies that we give ... and the way we can provide some normalcy means so much to the kids."
