Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration Dorothy Dunbar, age 86, died on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, at St. Rose Convent in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Sister Dorothy, having professed her desire to join a religious community at the age of 13, was gifting us all with her sixty-eighth year of religious life. With degrees in English, mathematics and literature, she taught middle school students in Wisconsin, Ohio, Nebraska and Illinois. Seeking change after Vatican II, Sister Dorothy transferred to FSPA from the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity. She went on to serve as a basic skills instructor in inner-city Chicago and in the FSPA membership office, where she intuitively shared her own experiences to inspire discerners to religious life. Sister Dorothy will be remembered as a “sparkplug” and a “fearless risk-taker motivated by tenacity and determination.” Visit FSPA Obituaries to read Sister Dorothy’s full obituary.
