Pastel: Three Approaches to Underpainting
06/05/23 - 06/07/23
9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Host: Marywood Franciscan Spirituality Center
Location: in-person
Facilitator: Sister Karen Kappell, FSPA
It is so much easier and more satisfying to begin a pastel painting with an underpainting applied to the working surface. We will explore a different underpainting method each day. Monday: A dark pastel applied to the surface and brushed over with rubbing alcohol. Tuesday: A multicolor pastel surface suggesting areas of color and brushed with alcohol. Wednesday: A light, warm color(s) to pastel surface and brushed with rubbing alcohol. After the underpainting is dried, pastels will be added to create the desired landscape painting. You will complete a painting each day. Bring sheets of watercolor paper (cold press #140) or pastel sandpaper 12” x 18” and pastels. Paper will be available for purchase. Rubbing alcohol will be supplied.
Fee: $45 each day. Limit of 8. Pre-register by Monday, May 29. Bring a lunch.
