FSPA supports immigration ad campaign
As a member of the National Communicators Network for Women Religious (Wisconsin Region 9), FSPA is co-sponsoring a campaign focusing on the need for comprehensive immigration reform.
The campaign features a print ad, pictured here, that runs in February in select Wisconsin daily newspapers, including the La Crosse Tribune and La Crosse’s Catholic Times. Another campaign component is the launch of the Wisconsin Catholic Sisters’ Facebook fan page where people can visit for more information.
The campaign aims to influence the public, especially voters over 40, about the need for comprehensive and humane reform in immigration legislation; to show support from Catholic Sisters for such reform in immigration legislation; and to show concretely the impact of the current immigration system on undocumented immigrants and their families.
In collaboration with the La Crosse Area Pax Christi Group, the FSPA Justice, Peace & Integration of Creation Committee kicked off the campaign with an immigration reform op-ed submitted to the La Crosse Tribune by Justice and Peace Coordinator Liz Deligio. This editorial followed the committee’s joint project encouraging La Crosse area sisters, affiliates and others to sign postcards that call for just immigration reform, and especially co-sponsorship of Rep. Gutierrez’s bill, HR4321. The postcards were hand delivered by members of the two committees to Wisconsin representatives in January.
