FSPA in the La Crosse Tribune

On Monday, Sept. 21, Viterbo University Groundskeeper Boua Xiong was highlighted in a La Crosse Tribune story. The article quotes Viterbo University President Rick Artman who commends Boua’s work, a job he does with care, precision and humility, citing the importance of the ground’s appearance for prospective students. The piece also makes mention of the groundskeeper’s mentor: “Xiong learned to be meticulous from the late Franciscan Sister Louisella Froehle, who trained him 25 years ago.” Read more at the La Crosse Tribune’s Web site.

Monday’s issue also featured an article written for the Tribune by 1939 Aquinas High School graduate Larry Olson about his recent 70th class reunion held in La Crosse. Entitled “Larry Olson: Shrinking Aquinas class proud as punch,” the story reported that out of his 56 surviving classmates, 16 attended the event. Reminiscing about his fellow graduates, Larry wrote that among the most “notable” classmates was “the late Sister Grace Beznouz, founder of Viterbo University's nursing program… ”

La Crosse Tribune reporter Samantha Marcus wrote the article “‘Star Party’ showcases both bluffs and the heavens” that ran in its Sunday, Sept. 20 edition. The piece covered the stargazing event held on Solitude Ridge at Villa St. Joseph on Saturday, Sept. 19 and referenced the groups, including FSPA, that were involved in the event. “‘The sisters take stewardship of Earth very seriously,’ said Tim Jacobson, executive director of the Mississippi Valley Conservancy, which with FSPA and the La Crosse Area Astronomical Society on Saturday hosted an evening to celebrate this planet and others.” Marcus reported that over 100 people were present that evening to view the stars; they also toured the Villa garden and hiked to the quarry overlook.
