Pastoral Services
In addition to healing body and mind, FSPA are also engaged in spiritual healing. In fact, about 35 percent of the active ministry of the congregation today involves caring for the spiritual needs of the people we serve. Believing that all life includes the spiritual dimension, that which gives hope and meaning, we minister in a variety of roles and settings that honor integrated, holistic healing, with much of this work occurring within parishes. Our sisters serve as pastoral ministers, pastoral associates, pastoral administrators, liturgists, musicians, and visitors to the sick and elderly. Two have ministered at the diocesan level as chancellors/vicars for religious. In addition, FSPA share in spiritual care through chaplaincy training and hands-on ministries of healing in hospitals, nursing homes, prisons, and funeral homes. We care for patients, families, and staff, and we provide outreach support and counseling for grieving children, adolescents, and adults; parish mentoring programs for juvenile law offenders; drug and alcohol rehabilitation support; training of volunteers to make spiritual care visits; and membership on operating room teams, providing prayer ministry during surgeries. FSPA spirituality centers also provide support and programs for people preparing for surgery as well as during recuperation and healing periods. All of these ministries are grounded in the Eucharist and supported by perpetual adoration. Click here to return to the Ministering in Faith page.
