In This Issue - Perspectives Spring 2006
Taking the Gospel as the source of our inspiration and the norm of our life,
we endeavor to integrate contemplation and ministry.
FSPA Constitutions #10
Mary of the Angels Chapel, a house of prayer, is being honored this year. Here,
FSPA members have worshipped God for 100 years. In this chapel members are received
into the community and, for most, this is the final stopping place of their
earthly life. Far more than a building, Mary of the Angels represents the wellspring
of prayer and contemplation for members.
As part of our continued recognition of the centennial celebration, the article
features a few of the chapel's artistic treasures and brief profiles of the
artisans who created these priceless works.
Grounded in prayer and using the Gospel as their guide, members venture forth
to minister as far away as Zimbabwe and El Salvador, or as close as senior high-rise
housing located within a mile of the chapel. In this issue you can look into
the ministries of several FSPA members and an affiliate to experience how their
works manifest their faith.
In January, The David School in Kentucky was featured on national television.
Sisters Emma Kriz and Mary Myron Stork were in the background, offering support
and guidance to the youth. Emulating Christ, they have been steadfast in serving
disadvantaged youth, collectively dedicating 43 years of their lives in this
ministry. Long before the national spotlight came to David, the lives of Sisters
Emma and Mary Myron were shining through for others.
Blending contemplation with ministry has led to a distinct collaborative leadership
style for women religious. This interface is also at the root of distinguished
service and creative endeavors.
A special group of women choose this Gospel-based community life. The congregation
is pleased to introduce Julia Walsh who has responded to God's call by entering
the associate phase of religious life. The individual gifts of all of the newest
members will be expressed differently as they move into their ministries. Yet,
all will spring from the same Christ-centered values shared with those who have
preceded them.
