Sister Thea Bowman in the news
The late Sister Thea Bowman continues to make headlines nationally. In the latest revised version of the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults, Sister Thea is one of nine women whose biographies are published as evidence that adult faith must grapple with sometimes difficult truths. Videos highlighted in the October edition of the Shared Health Services corporation newsletter, The Insider, included the film, Living with Suffering & Dying, which is a first-hand account of Sister Thea's experiences of living with a terminal illness. On Oct. 29 an official school blessing ceremony of Sister Thea Bowman Catholic School was held in Jackson, Miss. On Sept. 9, the Madison County Herald of Mississippi printed a profile of a new book, Proud to Call Mississippi Home, a compilation of sketches about Mississippi's important figures, which included information about Sister Thea Bowman. Sister Thea is also mentioned in two other recently-released books: Saints to Lean On: Spiritual Companions of Illness and Disability, and Sweet, Sweet Spirit: Prayer Services from the Black Catholic Church.
