Julia Walsh Accepted into Novitiate

Franciscan Sisters Receive Julia Walsh into Novitiate
La Crosse, Wis. - The Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration (FSPA) have
accepted Julia Walsh into the novitiate program. Reception Vespers will be held
Friday, May 25, at 4:00 p.m. at Mary of the Angels Chapel in La Crosse.
A native of Elgin, Iowa, Walsh holds a bachelor of arts degree from Loras College
in Dubuque, Iowa, with a double major in history and teacher education and a
minor in Catholic studies. Since graduating college in December 2003, she has
served as a lobbyist intern for the Iowa Catholic Conference; Youth Corps Director
for Tubman House, Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Sacramento, Calif.; volunteer for
Place of Grace Catholic Worker House in La Crosse; summer program instructor
for the University of Minnesota Upward Bound program in Minneapolis, Minn. Her
most recent ministry wass working as service projects coordinator for Work in
Progress AmeriCorps in Minneapolis. Walsh is interested in a number of issues
including youth empowerment, social justice and environmentalism.
For the past year and a half, Walsh has been in the associate phase of incorporation
into the FSPA, studying Franciscanism and theology, learning about the FSPA
community, volunteering and participating in FSPA community events.
