CHICAGO NATIVE JOINS FRANCISCAN SISTERS OF PERPETUAL ADORATION
Kristin Peters

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 31, 2007

CHICAGO NATIVE JOINS FRANCISCAN SISTERS OF PERPETUAL ADORATION

LA CROSSE, Wis. - Kristin Peters, a member of the Archdiocese of Chicago, has become an associate with the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration (FSPA) in La Crosse, Wis. The associate phase is the first formal step toward becoming a vowed member of the congregation.

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Peters is a 2001 graduate of the Loyola/Erikson Institute, Chicago, Illinois, where she earned a Masters of Education in child development. She holds a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from St. Mary's University, Winona Minn., where she majored in philosophy and minored in psychology.

Prior to joining FSPA, Peters worked as a classroom instructor at the Neumann Association in Chicago. The Neumann Association works to integrate persons with disabilities and other life issues into the community and enrich their quality of life with choice and independence.

"At the Neumann Association I worked to provide seniors 50 and older with various levels of need opportunities to engage in meaningful activities," says Peters. The room theme was Archiving the Past, Celebrating our Lives. The seniors created memory albums to provide a means to tell their story.

As a member of St. Gregory the Great parish in the Archdiocese of Chicago, Peters worked with the Special Religious Development (SPRED) program. SPRED integrates individuals with special needs into a small faith community within the parish. One on one relationships provide a means for each person to come to know Jesus through relationship.

The associate phase of FSPA's membership process includes continuing to develop personal spirituality, learning FSPA history and values, and working within and experiencing community life. During this associate phase, Peters will volunteer locally and continue her education at Viterbo University.

Based in La Crosse, Wis., the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration consist of more than 350 women religious engaged in furthering the work of the Catholic Church and the Gospel. Their partners in ministry, including more than 200 affiliates, join them in service of God's mission. The sisters work in the United States and internationally in varied ministries, creating innovative approaches to healing, teaching and praying.
