FRANCISCAN SISTERS OF PERPETUAL ADORATION
How - and What - We Pray
While the reasons for prayer have not changed throughout human existence,
the styles and types of prayer have evolved to include both ancient and contemporary
approaches. Indeed, the only requirement of prayer is that it be intentional.
Thus, the simple word "Please" can be a prayer, as can "Thanks."
Silence can be a prayer, when directed to the Divine.
For those in religious life, prayer practices take on both communal and private
significance. Daily, sisters pray together during such community prayers as
Eucharist and Liturgy of the Hours. Their private prayers include everything
from Lectio Divina (Holy Reading) to the rosary. In
this article on the Sisters
United News Web site, Catholic Sisters from seven Upper Mississippi River
Valley communities reflect on the prayer practices significant to their orders.
Sisters United News (SUN) comprises communicators of 12 religious congregations
of the Upper Mississippi Valley, including the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual
Adoration. Collaborating for maximum impact and mutual support, SUN is dedicated
to promoting and publicizing the values of Catholic Sisters living the Gospel
in today's world. SUN represents sisters who live the gospel and whose values
include: seeking God together in prayer and spirituality; embracing community;
living in right relationship with all of creation; working for peace through
justice.
