Sister Malinda Gerke recognized for harp ministry
Sister Malinda Gerke received a certificate of nomination for Gundersen Lutheran's
Volunteer of the Year on April 17. It says, "This nomination by staff is
because you have demonstrated commitment, compassion and the spirit of giving
to patients, families and employees. Your devotion and service are truly appreciated."
The nomination comes from the medical-surgical unit where she plays harp: "She
comes to the unit quietly and starts to play the most beautiful music. It's
very calming for the staff who feel rushed and are scurrying around. We appreciate
her talents!"

FSPA helps people of El Salvador
After three years of prodding, Sister Antona Schedlo was successful in getting
a police vehicle fixed for the police emergencies and other emergencies in the
pueblo in Oratorio de Concepcion, El Salvador. The vehicle belonged to the National
Police and was damaged. A committee has been organized to manage upkeep of the
vehicle. Also, as FSPA may remember, in 2005 the community sent Sister Antona
$1,000 to help the rebuilding efforts following Hurricane Sam. The money was
badly needed in Tamanique, which sustained heavy damage in the wake of the hurricane.
In all 33 houses were built in Tamanique at a cost of $1000 each, meaning FSPA
covered the cost of one home. The building process was a community project;
all worked on one house and completed it before going on the next. The new houses
are built of concrete and will be much more stable than the previous homes.
