A new FSPA leadership team began its four-year term on June 30. Sister Marlene
Weisenbeck was selected to serve a second term as president. Sister Paulynn
Instenes was selected as vice president. Sister Sharon Berger returns as mission
councilor and Sisters Karen Neuser and Linda Mershon were selected as new mission
councilors.
In their first general communication to members, Sister Linda wrote, We
begin, committed to serve, keeping our mission, our goals and our values forefront
in our minds, doing what is required of us in the most effective and healing
way possible.
Early on, the team determined to encourage the intentionality of members and
affiliates by focusing on an aspect of the direction statement, a Franciscan
value and an element of mission theology each year of their term. For 2006-2007
the emphasis will be on building community, the support of all, especially women
and children and the virtue of poverty.
Besides the new focus, the current leadership team size has changed. The 2005
General Assembly of members decided that only three mission councilors would
be elected. Formerly, four mission councilors were chosen.
