Fourth Annual Thea Bowman "Flavor of Soul" Commemoration
March 30 is the anniversary of Sister Thea Bowman's death (1937-1990). In celebration of her life and work, the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration are holding the fourth annual "Flavor of Soul" commemoration that day. In the Gathering Room at St. Rose Convent, at 11:30 a.m., Carlene Unser, FSPA, will present her new Thea icon: "This Little Light of Mine," and speak about the new image. Gospel music will be provided by harpist, Malinda Gerke, FSPA. The Viterbo community is invited to participate in this event. In her 60 Minutes interview with Mike Wallace, Thea said in 1987, "I think the difference between me and some other people is that I'm content to do my little bit. Sometimes people think they have to do big things in order to make change, but if each one of us would light a candle we'd have a tremendous light." Thea's light shone brightly as she taught, sang and preached the Gospel throughout the nation, the Caribbean and Africa.
