Sisters United News (SUN), which comprises 12 religious congregations of Catholic
Sisters in the Upper Mississippi River Valley, recently launched an interactive
Web site which will deliver news of their cooperative efforts. SUN congregations
are located in parts of Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois, and include the Franciscan
Sisters of Perpetual Adoration. The Sisters United News media center is a collaborative
project, which is aimed at improving timeliness of and accessibility to information
about the organization and the congregations they represent. The launch of the
site is the result of two years of work for the organization.
The new site, http://www.sistersunitednews.org, includes news, story ideas for
media, SUN project information and experts on a variety of topics. The "Experts
Guide" includes a listing of topics for which SUN spokespeople are available
for interviews. Many FSPA have agreed to act as spokespeople on a number of
issues. Although their names do not appear on the site, their areas of expertise
and ministry locations are listed. Media interviews requested via the site will
be coordinated through the FSPA communications department.
Since 1993, SUN has initiated many projects to illustrate the life and work
of contemporary sisters. Through newspaper and magazine articles, press releases,
billboards, print and broadcast advertising and now the new Web site, SUN has
increased public awareness about causes the congregations collectively support
such as ending racism, abolishing the death penalty, welcoming immigrants, respecting
the Earth, calling for world peace, encouraging voting and exploring religious
vocations. The SUN media center will also present regularly-updated story ideas
and up-to-the-minute news via RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds.
