Iverson Freking Award
Sister Celesta Day was named a recipient of the Iverson Freking Ecumenical Award
at the 20th annual award ceremony in January. The award, named for the late
Carl Iverson and the late Bishop Frederick Freking, is given to those who reflect
unselfish dedication to fostering and promoting ecumenical endeavors.
Sister Celesta was recognized for her various ministry and volunteer affiliations,
which have ranged from leadership roles in health care to volunteering at the
Salvation Army over the course of her life. Most recently she served as director
of the office of mission effectiveness for the FSPA.
She described ecumenism as "making room for one another in our faith traditions."
In her acceptance she described ecumenism as a process of praying, dialoging
and sharing in charitable works together.

St. Francis Staff Award
Sister Judine Kranc received the 2006 St. Francis Staff Award from Aquinas Schools
in La Crosse for her long record of service and her impact on students. She
taught shorthand and typing at Aquinas for 33 years.
In her acceptance remarks Sister Judine spoke at length about her memories of
Aquinas, citing numerous changes that have occurred. Since she was also a graduate
of the class of 1938, she was able to bring out many stories of her experiences
at the school. She ended her remarks by reminding the audience that since "Aquinas
was established to impart knowledge based on sound principles in a faith-filled
environment," every student could acknowledge the school with great pride.
