New member music recordings offer relaxation and celebration of women

Peaceful Journey
Sister Malinda Gerke just released her fifth, and possibly last album, Peaceful Journey. This recording is exclusively harp music. Initially the inspiration for this collection came from her work playing for people in a death and dying state, but according to Sister Malinda it is appropriate for any setting when a listener desires a calm atmosphere for prayer or reflection.

Peaceful Journey includes 21 comforting hymns and reflective classics such as Clair du Lune by Debussy and To a Wild Rose by McDowell. Sister Malinda explains, “This recording is more for setting a mood and relaxing, it is not meant to be a concert.” She created the arrangements for over half of the selections. For all others, she obtained copyright permission.

The most requested selection on the album is Wind Beneath My Wings by Henly and Silbar. Sister Malinda says she is quite delighted with how the cover image ties into the first selection, Only a Shadow, by Landry. The image is a photograph that was taken by her sister, Donna Cuta, on a local trail. The photographer’s shadow is projected onto the trail.

Copies of the CD can be purchased in the St. Rose Gift Shop, from Sister Malinda or Elizabeth Bungard for $15.00. Some cassette copies will also be available for $10.00.

Woman sings with joy in the realization of her own creation and beauty. Woman not only sings, she dances!

A Woman Sings
Sister Joann Gehling recently announced that Sister Lea Henkes also recorded a new album before she died unexpectedly in July. The album, A Woman Sings: A Song of Celebration, has five original pieces by the artist. The songs encourage women to sing their song and tell their stories. Two of the selections also make connections to God’s creatures and the feminine nourishing spirit.

Sister Lea sings all songs a cappella. Her voice, one of a mature woman, is lively and somewhat ethereal. A drawing by Sister Maryam Gossling graces the cover. There are a limited number of copies available.

To purchase a copy contact Sister Joann Gehling at j.gehling@mchsi.com. A portion of the proceeds from sales will be used for a flower garden memorial in Sister Lea’s honor. The cost of the CD is $10 plus postage.
